Morton snap up former Kilmarnock striker Robbie Muirhead on year-long deal

Former Kilmarnock striker Robbie Muirhead has signed with Morton.

The ex-Rugby Park hitman put pen to paper for a year at Cappielow.

And 'Ton manager David Hopkin has every faith that Muirhead will be a success.

He told the club's website: "It’s fantastic. Robbie has only turned 23 and we are getting someone I think we’re very luck to have.

“When I was in charge of the 20s here at Morton the first time, I saw him coming through at Kilmarnock. He went on to play about 50 games, and for a kid at that age to be playing is an indication of his ability.

“He made some really good moves to different clubs but has been used in different positions that are a wee bit alien to him, because he can play there.

“I spoke to his agent, Grant Smith, who I know well, and Grant was keen to get him back playing football, and back where I think he should be: as a striker, as a No 9.

“A lot of people will have seen him playing in a wide left role, centre mid, or other positions. But from when I first saw him as a kid, at 17 years old, he has been most effective up top – and that’s where he’ll be playing for us.

“We have good competition there. We’ve got Robbie, Bob McHugh signed up, young Kalvin Orsi has come in, and Cameron Salkeld can play there too.

“Robbie is a fantastic footballer. I think a lot of people forget because he’s 6ft 3in; they think he’s just going to be this targetman. But he’s a cultured football, he’s quick, he’s skilful, and it’s my job now to get the best out of him.”
