Morton and Ayr launch united racism probe as alleged Championship clash incident sparks fan support calls

Morton and Ayr United have urged fans to come forward and assist in the investigation of an alleged racist comment made during the league clash.

The abuse is reported to have come from the main stand at Somerset Park during the goalless Championship fixture on Saturday.

Now both Morton and the home side have urged fans to come forward with information.

It was originally reported by a supporter to a steward and both clubs are stepping up the investigation into the latest alleged shocking racist occurrence in Scottish football.

Earlier this season, Kelty Hearts striker Nathan Austin was subject to racist abuse in their clash with Albion Rovers.

This led to the Cliftonhill side banning a fan group from attending games.

Airdrieonians defender Rico Quitongo has claimed he was racially abused by a member of the Diamonds' support, with the League One side investigating the incident.

A joint Morton and Ayr statement read: "The club has been made aware of alleged racial abuse having been shouted from the Main Stand at Somerset Park during Saturday’s match against Ayr United.

"We would like to urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact Roy Provan at Ayr United at the following address stadium@ayrunitedfc.co.uk"
