Morrissey's heartbreaking message to fans as Irish mother falls gravely ill

Morrissey has posted a heartbreaking message to his fans begging them to pray for his Irish mother who is gravely ill.

The former Smiths frontman urged people in nine countries, including Ireland, to pray for the recovery of Elizabeth Anne Dwyer, who is understood to be in her 80s.

The 61-year-old singer explained in the post on the website Morrissey Central that “there is no tomorrow” for him without his beloved mother.

Along with the moving message he posted a picture of him with his mother which was taken when he was lead singer with the Smiths in the mid 1980s.

He also explains to his fans that his mother was born in Holles Hospital in Dublin.

In the post he pleads: “With this broken voice I beseech you, my friends, to offer prayers of hope and prayers of intercession for the recovery of Elizabeth Anne Dwyer, who is my mother, who is in trouble, and who is the sole reason for all the good and motivational things in my life.

“I ask particularly my friends in Chile, Mexico, Italy, Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, the United States, Ecuador, Israel and Ireland to offer their prayers for Elizabeth - for she is all I have, and our collective pleas of petition might wake the sleeping gods.

“She is me, and without her vahaan koee kal hal … there is no tomorrow. I ask no more of you… for there could be no more to ask.” He signs the message with his full name, Steven Patrick Francis Morrissey.

Born to working-class Irish immigrants in Davyhulme, Lancashire, Morrissey grew up in nearby Manchester and has always been very close to his mother.

The relationship between his parents was strained, and they ultimately separated in December 1976, with his father moving out of the family home.

It was his librarian mother who encouraged her son to become interested in literature and he became an avid reader.

His mother was also immensely proud of her son’s musical achievements and often attended his concerts.

Elizabeth was present when Morrissey performed at the London Palladium in 2018 where she was photographed looking down admiringly at her famous son.
