Morrissey postpones tour dates after 'medical emergency'

Morrissey has had to cancel two shows after suffering a 'medical emergency'.

The Smiths legend was due to begin his first Canadian tour in over a decade last night but has been forced to postpone the opening two nights in Vancouver after an accident.

A statement from Ticketmaster said the accident took place while the singer was travelling in Europe.

The star is said to be on the mend and in good spirits.

“Due to a medical emergency stemming from an accident incurred while traveling in Europe, Morrissey will be forced to postpone his performances in Vancouver to October 14th and 15th, 2019," the statement said.

“Spirits are high and the artist is on the path to a swift recovery.  All tickets will be valid for the new date and exchanges will not be necessary. Thank you for your understanding.

“Morrissey looks forward to making his long-awaited return to the city and wishes to deeply thank everyone for their patience."

The rest of his Canadian tour will take place as scheduled from April 26, when he will play a show in Toronto.

The vegan musician has boycotted performing in Canada for the last 15 years in protest against seal clubbing. Announcing his return to the country last year, he said his 'stance was ultimately of no use and helped no one'.

He said he would be making 'sizable donations' to animal protection groups in each city that he plays on the tour instead.

Morrissey cancelled a string of UK and European tour dates last summer, including two shows at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester.

His management cited 'logistical circumstances beyond our control' and promised to reschedule the tour, but no new dates have yet been announced.
