Morrissey announces new tour including Manchester Apollo homecoming show

Manchester music star Morrissey has announced a major UK and Ireland tour which will start in September. The singer-songwriter will play a homecoming show at the 02 Manchester Apollo as part of the string of new dates with tickets to go on sale this week.

The Davyhulme-born performer has enjoyed 16 albums in the UK top ten, plus 9 top ten albums with his former group The Smiths. The Irish Blood, English Heart hitmaker will perform 10 dates on the newly-announced tour, which will start on September 24 in Killarney, South West Ireland.

The tour will include two London dates at two iconic venues – The Palladium and O2 Academy Brixton, as well as a homecoming show for the Stretford-raised star at Ardwick's 02 Apollo on October 4.

Tickets for all of the UK dates will go on general sale on Thursday June 23 at 9.30am.

The new tour is set to showcase songs from his most recent album, Bonfire of the Teenagers, while no doubt dipping into his extensive back catalogue.

His Manchester Apollo gig is set to be an eagerly-anticipated event for fans due to its place in Morrissey's musical history. It was at the theatre that Morrissey first met guitarist Johnny Marr when they both went to watch Patti Smith in concert in the late 70s, and through their mutual interests in music and poetry would go on to form The Smiths.

Morrissey, 63, was the singer and lyricist of The Smiths for 6 years, during which time the band's work would cement their place as one of the most influential bands of the 20th century. After The Smiths split up, he went on to become a successful solo artist and in 1994 his album Your Arsenal was Grammy nominated.
