Morrisons warehouse death after man injured in 'industrial accident'

A man has been killed in 'industrial accident' at a Morrisons distribution site in Wakefield. According to police reports, the man was working at 41 Business Park, Kenmore Road, as a contractor.

Police were called to the scene at 10.20am on Monday (August 1). It is understood a man had been seriously injured while working at the site.

He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. A police cordon remains in place as officers continue their enquiries into the incident, reports YorkshireLive.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 10.20am today police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending an incident at the Morrisons Warehouse in Wakefield 41 Business Park, on Kenmore Road. A man had been seriously injured while working at the site as a contractor.

"He was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. A scene has been put in place while enquiries are carried out into the circumstances. The Coroner’s Office has been informed. The incident is being treated as an industrial accident and officers are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)"

Morrisons and the Health and the HSE have both been approached for comment. The distribution site in Wakefield covers 1.2 million ft sq and employs a team of 1,300 colleagues, according to Morrisons.
