Morrisons to run 'Quiet Hour' all week for the most heartwarming reason

Morrisons has introduced a quiet hour in all of it's stores this week as part of World Autism Awareness Week.

The store has previously run the initiative as an attempt to make shopping more comfortable for a number of their customers, and their children.

As many people with the condition have found shopping in a supermarket an anxious experience, Morrisons has taken a number of steps to try and combat it.

Everyday this week, Morrisons will dim it's lights and quieten noises as part of their Quieter Hour, to make shopping a less stressful experience for many shoppers.

The initiative will run all it's stores from 9am to 10am, and you can find your closest store here.

As part of their Quieter Hour which is 9am- 10am each day, Morrisons will:

  • Dim the lights
  • Turn music and radio off
  • Avoid making tannoy announcements
  • Turn checkout beeps and other electrical noises down

Joseph Clark-Bland, Community Specialist at Morrisons, said: “We want to do our bit to raise awareness of autism and help affected families and that’s why we’ll be offering the quieter hour every day. We know that many families appreciate the opportunity to shop in a quieter store.”

The Quieter Hour initiative was first introduced last year in Morrisons stores between 9am and 10am every Saturday.

The move came after many customers said they had family members with autism and many wanted the option to shop at a quieter time.
