Morrisons to reopen 320 cafés this weekend as pubs and salons welcome customers

Morrisons is to reopen 320 cafés in England on Saturday, with a series of new safety measures in place to minimise social contact following the 12 week lockdown.

New rules will include signage across stores to encourage the one-metre-plus rule, while more than 11,000 perspex screens have been put in place to minimise social contact.

Customers will not need to pre-book ahead of their visit or order electronically in stores.

Ali Lyons Head of Cafe at Morrisons, said: "We intend to play our full part in feeding the nation and so our cafes will be safe and better value-for-money at this challenging time for customers. We look forward to serving them again from this Saturday."

The new reduced menu includes a fish and chips meal for £4.95 while customers will get a free cup of tea with the chain's iconic Big Breakfast.

For the first time, there will also be a takeaway bacon or sausage sandwich and hot drink deal for £1.95 for those who do not want to eat in.

Morrisons has opened up meat, fish, deli, bakery, cake shops, pizza, pie shop and oven counters, along with florists and a food to order service in recent weeks.

It's also introduced flat pricing on clothing, where children’s clothing items are the same prices regardless of the child’s age.

The contactless card payment limit has also increased to £45 to help customers speed up their orders on food shopping.

Chief executive David Potts said: "We’re working on even more ways to deliver, including a trial to deliver direct to the UK’s largest retirement community.

"We’re often asked if this service will continue, as we set it up in response to the covid crisis with our key worker colleagues helping customers by taking phone calls in addition to their usual jobs.

"We’re very pleased to announce that it’s here to stay!

"We’re now recruiting for permanent telesales colleagues to make that happen."
