Morrisons supermarket in Birmingham shuts as shop worker dies suddenly in store

A Morrisons supermarket has been closed after a member of staff apparently had a cardiac arrest and died in store.

The store in Hurst Lane, Castle Bromwich, was shut shortly before 9am on Tuesday, BirminghamLive reports.

A West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed it had been called to a "medical emergency" at the store.

Two ambulances and the West Midlands Care Team were sent to the supermarket, where the staff member was found in cardiac arrest.

Despite the efforts of the ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shoppers were turned away from the store, which was shut.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "When crews arrived, CPR was already in progress. Ambulance staff administered advanced life support on scene.

"Unfortunately, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Tributes were paid to the man on social media who was described as "such a lovely guy... going to be missed so much. Thoughts are with his family."
