Staff at a supermarket in Wigan have been praised for going ‘above and beyond’ to help customers affected by the recent fuel shortage.

“It's been a difficult weekend getting on and off our car park. We have done our best to keep the traffic flowing and the bypass clear while customers made their way to get fuel.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

“P.s We are still getting regular deliveries.”

The fuel crisis comes following a shortage of HGV drivers and a flurry of panic buying.

On Monday, the government announced that army tanker drivers have been poised to help tackle the fuel crisis as pumps around the country run dry.
