Morrisons shoppers threaten to boycott the supermarket over 'disgraceful' new system

Supermarket giant Morrisons has rubbed some shoppers up the wrong way with its latest announcement.

Last month, the retailer confirmed a change to the way its Morrisons More points system works - and some people really aren't happy.

Under the current scheme, customers get five points for every £1 spent - with 5,000 points worth a £5 voucher at the supermarket.

But this will stop from May 10 - meaning the final day to collect points is May 9 - thanks to a huge overhaul of its loyalty club.

Instead of getting points, shoppers will receive digital coupons via its Morrisons More app that can be used for instant savings in stores.

The supermarket says these will be personalised, so they should be based on what you usually buy in stores.

The new scheme hasn't gone down well with everyone.

One person fumed: "And what about those of us that shop online - reading that right vouchers can only be used in the shop?

"I’ve only recently switched to Morrison’s online and already the 10% NHS discount has gone from on line...... guess I may be switching to another supermarket!"

A second agreed and wrote: "What about the people who don't own a phone so can't get the money off vouchers who have been loyal to Morrisons. Bad move Morrisons loyalty is a 2 way thing. Think I will do more of my shopping at Aldi in future."

"Think Morrisons is over priced anyway recently," said a third.

"Well I'm elderly and don't have a phone so I won't be shopping at morrisons any more disgraceful treatment of shoppers," added a fourth.

"What they are proposing just won't suit me at all," said another - according to Birmingham Live.

They added: "They will reduce prices on a select few items - usually ones I don't eat. I liked this way and I used to save points until a special event then used them. I also feel that their prices have gone up quite a bit, so have started shopping at Sainsbury's."

Manchester Evening News has contacted Morrisons for comment.
