Morrisons shoppers fall to their knees when they see 'astronomical' price of pasta sauce compared to B&M and Aldi

Earlier this week, Morrisons took back the crown for 'priciest supermarket' from Tesco, after just a week of not being in the top spot.

After hiking up the price of a 300g pack of chicken from £2.49 to £2.59, the highest price of all six supermarkets, the average Morrisons basket of essentials amounted to £11.57 - which is 7p more than Tesco and 46p more than the cheapest supermarket Aldi.

And now shoppers have been horrified by the 'astronomical' price of another staple item in stores. Morrison's price point for 660g jars of Lloyd Grossman tomato and chilli sauce has left shoppers speechless.

In the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, Kirsty Hartley said: "I love this sauce but the large jar has gone up to £4.49 in Morrisons. Then I found the exact same jar for £2.09 in B&M it just goes to show how much the supermarkets are ripping us off!!!"

Kirsty's post was met with anger, disbelief and disappointment in equal measures. Shoppers did not hold back.

Helen Linford suggested: "I’d say it was Morrisons ripping people off. I bet it will be “on special offer” very soon though." Sue Lloyd said: "Morrisons is expensive but that's ridiculous. I'd never play that for a jar."

Katie Leigh Winnell exclaimed: "Morrisons!!!! Shockingly expensive." Lindy Wilson agreed: "It's absolutely ridiculous the prices are going up up and up."

Helen Swithenbank said: "That is scandalous!" Linds Daly wrote: "Morrisons prices have sky rocketted! Aldi all the way for me." Matthew Humphrys said: "Omg I'd never spend over £4 for that!!!!"

Others had different suggestions. While some people suggested making your own sauce for a fraction of the price, others said they'd seen the sauce even cheaper elsewhere.

Hannah Rebecca Salisbury said: "So much easier and nicer to make yourself, plus you can make a big batch to freeze so it's still an easy mealtime. Also I'm sure these used to be £1." Meg Lee suggested: "Make it your self.. soooo much cheaper and 10x better."

Jaye Kane suggested: "Was £1 in farmfoods on Monday." Tina Marie Parkes also suggested trying Farmfoods, writing: "Farmfoods have this I'm sure it's only a £1."

Manchester Evening News has contacted Morrisons for comment.
