Did you know that double york eggs are meant to be lucky? No, neither did we but we do now!
In a bid to bring some good fortune this Easter, Morrisons will be stocking the 'lucky' double yolk eggs. There will be 1,000 packs of the eggs available at 11 stores across the UK.
Having previously been a sign of good luck, due to the fact the chances of finding one were one-in-a-thousand, Morrisons have worked with 'eggsperts' at their North Yorkshire site to bring the eggs to their shelves.
Don't worry about any funny business either, the eggs were carefully selected by hold larger eggs up to a special high powered lamp to spot the outline of the extra yolk. Those with double the yolk are then put to one side.
They eggs will be available from today and come in a four pack and will cost just £1.50.
They can be bought in 11 selected stores; Aldershot, Bradford Enterprise 5, Camden Town, Chingford, Erith, Failsworth, Harrow, Maidstone, Plymstock, Preston Riversway, Redditch. Find out more information here .
Robert Hoffman, egg buyer at Morrisons said, " You know it’s a lucky day, when you crack open an egg and find it has two yolks. So we wanted to bring egg-lovers extra luck by offering a four pack of double yolk eggs. We hope they bring customers some good fortune this Easter.”
Double yolk eggs usually come from young hens which are between 20 - 27 weeks. Inexperienced hens are more likely to produce a remarkable extra yolk when laying their first batch of eggs.
