UK supermarket Morrisons has issued a recall for one of its sausage products, citing concerns that it may contain small pieces of blue plastic.
The item in question is Morrisons’ The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages in the 400g size, with a use-by date of May 1, 2025.
The recall is specific to sausages with the above use-by date, and no other Morrisons products are known to be affected by this issue.
Customers who have purchased the sausages are being advised not to consume them and to return the product to their nearest Morrisons store for a full refund.
Morrisons has confirmed that point of sales notices are being displayed in all stores that stocked the product, with guidance on what to do and the reason behind the recall.
According to a warning from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the presence of plastic in the product would make it unsafe to consume.
The FSA added: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, it might be withdrawn or recalled. This recall is due to a physical contamination risk which could cause harm if consumed.”
The supermarket recently announced plans to close 17 daily convenience stores. It is the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket chain, behind Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, according to European Supermarket magazine. It employs about 95,000 staff nationwide.
