Morrisons recall herb plants amid dangerous Listeria contamination fears

Potted herb plants have been recalled by Morrisons amid fears they may have been contaminated by potentially deadly bacteria.

Shoppers have been advised to return Market Street living basil, chives, corriander, dill, flat parsley, parsley, mint and thyme bought between May 3 and 9.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the alert this morning, explaining that the herbs, sold widely and used to flavour multiple dishes, might contain potentially deadly Listeria monocytogenes.

A risk statement issued by the FSA explains: "Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

"Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

"If you have bought the products, do not eat them. If customers are making an essential trip to any Morrisons store, they can return the item in-store for a full refund."
