Morrisons opens steak and seafood bars selling restaurant-quality produce at half the price

Morrisons has started to sell restaurant-quality steak and seafood at half the price.

The supermarket chain has opened new steak and seafood bars inside its stores from today, selling surplus stock from producers hit by the closure of restaurants.

The produce will be slashed in price, with an 8oz fillet steak costing just £3.52.

The retailer says it hopes to help British farmers and fishermen after demand from restaurants plummeted as a result of the lockdown and left producers with an excess of produce to sell.

Around 70% of British seafood is normally exported, while a third of other produce usually goes to the catering and restaurant trade.

As well as fillet steaks, Morrisons will be selling a range of 20 half-price fish and shellfish items, such as scallops, monkfish, Dover sole and squid.

A king scallop that would normally cost 66p will now be sold for just 33p.

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “We are playing our full part in feeding the nation and providing a home for some of the top-quality meat and seafood that our country produces.

"The opening of these bars will provide restaurant food at knock-out prices."

It's hoped that the new steak and seafood bars will allow shoppers to cook restaurant-worthy food at home, for a fraction of the cost.
