Morrisons offering more 'magic bags' of food at Christmas that shoppers go crazy for

Morrisons is expanding its popular Too Good to Go ‘Magic Bags’ of unsold food in a bid to help combat food waste over the festive period.

The supermarket announced that it will make 50 per cent more of the food bags between December 20 and December 24 that will be filled with discounted food items that shoppers can get for just £3.05.

The new move will make up part of the supermarket's ambitious pledge to reduce 50% off its food waste by 2030, as well as helping customers who are sticking to a budget this year.

Each Magic Bag can be purchased through the To Good To Go app and contains a tenner's worth of unsold food items that have reached their Best Before date.

Customers won't know what is in their bags until they are picked up at their local store, but Morrisons have said that they could include a few festive surprises.

The Too Good To Go app has become a viral sensation with shoppers posting videos and photos bargain bags they secure from supermarkets and also the likes of Cafe Nero, Costa and Starbucks.

Morrisons introduced the 'Magic Bags' of food back in 2019, after they were the first UK supermarket to partner with Too Good To Go to offer food past its ‘best before’ date directly to customers for less.

The move has proven popular with shoppers, as they regularly sell-out, but the supermarket and the app have decided to increase the amount of bags sold in stores to help with the additional festive stock.

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “We are using technology to help us reduce food waste and to help more people afford to eat well. It will also mean we waste less food this Christmas as it will find a home for products that can’t be sold after the festive period.”

The Too Good To Go app was launched to prevent edible food being thrown away and it has since become a massive sensation with shoppers and money-savers alike.

Other companies that have since partnered with the app are Pret, Costa, Yo! Sushi and many more.

Paschalis Loucaides, UK Managing Director at Too Good To Go, added: “It’s great that, together with Morrisons, we’re going to be able to save even more food from going to waste this Christmas while also helping more consumers get access to our Magic Bags.

Our Morrisons Magic Bags are some of the fastest selling on our app and I know that this increase will help to spread some festive cheer this December.”
