Whether you're shopping for just enough to get you through New Year's Day or looking to replenish your fridge as you start a brand new year, there's little more frustrating than turning up to a supermarket that's closed.

For Christmas 2021, Morrisons promised to hire 3,000 new staff members to meet the demand and also remained closed on Boxing Day as a thank you to their staff.

Fortunately for shoppers, the supermarket 's stores will be open across the UK on New Year's Day. However, like most shops and supermarkets across the UK, timings have been amended for the special occasion.

Read on to find out when Morrisons will be opening and closing on Saturday, January 1, 2022 and during the New Year's period.

While the following Morrisons opening times are accurate according to the supermarket chain's website, you should also use the store finder to ensure your local branch is open.

  • New Year's Eve 2021 (Friday, December 31, 2021) - Most stores will be open from 7am to 6pm
  • New Year's Day 2022 (Saturday, January 1, 2022) - Most stores will be open from 9am to 6pm
  • Sunday, January 2, 2022 - Most stores will be open from 10am to 4pm

Morrisons' opening hours for the UK's first Bank Holiday of 2022, which falls on Monday, January 3, have not yet been released. However, the supermarket chain's opening times are likely to go back to normal from Tuesday, January 4.

Prior to Christmas, the brand's social media tweeted: "To say a HUGE thank you to our hard working staff, our stores are closed this Boxing Day. Have a wonderful Christmas!"

In their bid to ease Christmas chaos, Morrisons also began a recruitment drive for a range of roles to cater to Christmas demand.

The website stated: "This year's holiday season is anticipated to be even busier than usual as customers try to make up for last year’s restricted celebrations and hold multiple gatherings with their friends and family.

"To help prepare, Morrisons is looking to recruit colleagues for its distribution centres and manufacturing sites across the country.

"The roles available range from warehouse and production operatives, to pickers and packers as well as other skilled roles such as fork lift truck drivers."

And, the company also promised full training would be provided for those who applied, so no prior experience was needed for the roles.
