Morrisons launches 'speedy shopping' system in Scots stores

Morrisons is bringing in a new speedy shopping system in a bid to get customers in and out quickly during lockdown.

Shoppers with baskets will be able to jump the queue ahead of those with trolleys outside stores.

The supermarket giant's new system will ensure customers wanting to shop for a small basket of essentials will queue for less time and checkout quickly once inside.

A new separate speedy shopping lane will be introduced outside of all Morrisons stores.

Three speedy shoppers will be allowed in for every trolley shopper during lockdown.

Clear signage and Morrisons marshals will help customers choose which queue to join.

When shoppers reach the front of the queue they will either pick up a basket or a trolley.

There will even be dedicated speedy shopper checkouts inside Morrisons stores.

To increase the speed of payments for basket customers, more self-scan tills will be turned into ‘card only’.

Staff will help guide customers to the appropriate queues - and minimise queueing where possible.

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “It’s fair that customers doing smaller shopping trips should queue for less time too.

"Speedy Shopping will ensure that Morrisons stores will be more convenient for customers wanting a small basket of items."
