Morrisons launches 'speedy shopping service' to help customers beat long queues during pandemic

Morrisons

A “speedy shopping” service has been introduced by Morrisons to help customers get in and out of its supermarkets more quickly during the pandemic.

Morrisons says its “speedy shopper checkouts” will help customers with smaller baskets of essentials queue for less time when checking out inside stores.

The supermarket will roll out the service at all of its stores from Wednesday.

To help organise the service and control queues, a “speedy shopping lane” will be introduced outside shops.

This will allow the supermarket to separate “speedy shoppers” from regular customers doing larger shops.

Morrisons says staff and clear signage will help customers organise themselves into the appropriate queue outside stores.

Announcing the move, David Potts, Morrisons chief executive, said: “It’s fair that customers doing smaller shopping trips should queue for less time too.

“Speedy Shopping will ensure that Morrisons stores will be more convenient for customers wanting a small basket of items.”

Last month,  Morrisons launched a click and collect food box service from hospital car parks to help NHS staff who are struggling to buy essential groceries during the coronavirus pandemic.

The move followed a number of calls from doctors and nurses on social media urging people to stop stockpiling groceries.

The supermarket also launched a range of food boxes for the general public, which aimed to provide groceries for people who were struggling to place orders online.

According to Morrisons website, boxes includes “a selection of everyday items” dependent on current availability and come in two options: vegetarian or meat.”

Elderly or vulnerable customers – such as those with underlying health issues who have been ordered to remain indoors – are prioritised.

The boxes cost £30, with a £5 delivery fee on top and contain enough ingredients to feed two adults for one week.
