Morrisons launches 'Back to School Pick Up Packs' to support struggling families

Morrisons have launched 'Pick Up Packs' to help families that may be struggling to afford necessities as children prepare to head back to school.

The supermarket is now giving customers the opportunity to help children and their families by creating stationery Pick Up Packs in store which can be bought and donated just in time for the new school year.

Pre-packed bags will be available to purchase each day and will contain items such as pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers and maths sets.

Customers can pick up a pack as the enter stores, pay for them with their shopping and donate by placing them at designated donation stations.

Store Community Champions, who raise awareness of services available within the community, will then collect and distribute the packs to local schools and community groups.

Shoppers can buy the packs, pay for them at the till and leave them at the donation station. (Morrisons)

Prices will vary depending on what pack a customer buys, with the most expensive costing £5.

The Back to School Pick Up Packs is just one of the latest schemes introduced by Morrisons to help those in need.

A similar food Pick Up Pack scheme was introduced which has seen over £1 million donated to local food banks in 2021.

In addition to this, ‘Ask for Sandy’ was introduced to help fight back against period poverty by offering customers sanitary products in discreet packaging.

Rebecca Singleton, Customer & Community Director at Morrisons, said:

“Going back to school can be both a nervous and exciting time for families. We hope these packs go some way to helping local children and their families who may struggle with the costs of going back to school - and take one thing off the to do list.”
