Morrisons is selling fillet steak for just £3.50

Morrisons is to sell everybody’s favourite cut of British steak for half price until further notice with the aim of reducing the nation’s meat mountain.

An 8oz fillet steak will cost just £3.52 compared to £7.04 previously. A typical fillet restaurant fillet steak costs more than £20.

The same size rump steak will be £1.70 (£7.50-a-kilo) and Sirloin/Ribeye will be £2.25 (£10-a-kilo).

The cuts will take steak prices back to their cost when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and aim to reduce a meat mountain that has emerged since the Coronavirus outbreak.

Demand for steak and seafood has collapsed as restaurants have closed and customers have been choosing cheaper cuts.

Ken Clow, Meat Director at Morrisons said: “This is a once in generation opportunity to eat steak at these prices. During a tough period we hope families enjoy the treat of enjoying a top-quality steak with a price from the 1980s.”

Morrisons will also be stocking 20 restaurant quality fish and shellfish for half price - including Dover sole, scallops, squid, turbot, and monkfish tails. A king scallop normally costing 66p will be priced at just 33p.

Morrisons British steaks have been voted the best in the world at the 2019 World Steak Challenge, beating steaks from farms in Argentina and Australia.
