Morrisons has a warning for shoppers after Facebook scam catches many out

Morrisons has issued a new warning to its customers after a worrying Facebook scam caught out many shoppers.

According to KentLive , the scams have been taking place across Facebook and even on WhatsApp too.

But worst of all it is even tricking people who have never shopped at Morrisons before.

The scam is in the form of links promising the likes of "Morrisons has announced that everyone who shares this link will be sent a £50 coupon for it's anniversary. TODAY ONLY"

However, Morrisons has now be forced to issue a warning to prevent customers from clicking on any links, open attachments or enter personal information.

Taking to Facebook, Morrisons said: "We are aware of a number of spam emails, text messages and social media posts from third-parties posing as Morrisons for the purpose of fraudulent activity.

"If you receive one of these suspicious messages, please do not click any links, open attachments or enter personal information.

"We would never ask for your personal details in order to redeem a voucher.

"If you believe you have been contacted please contact us on '0345 611 6111' or call Action Fraud on '0300 123 2040'.

"You can also visit 'www.actionfraud.police.uk' to report fraudulent activity to the authorities."

It comes after Trading Standards issued its own warning over the scam.

Posting to its followers on  Facebook , a spokesman for Suffolk Trading Standards said: "A post claiming that everyone who shares a Morrisons giveaway post will be sent a £50 coupon is currently circulating on Facebook.

"It states that the coupon giveaway is in celebration of the retail giant's anniversary, and applies 'TODAY ONLY'.

"It features an image that supposedly depicts one of the free coupons.

"However, this post is fraudulent and has no connection to Morrisons.

"Nobody who participates will receive a coupon.

"If you see one of these giveaway posts, don't be tempted to participate.

"You have no chance of winning the promised prize, and you may risk your privacy and security by sharing your personal information with online scammers."
