Morrisons expands Click and Collect service with five Edinburgh supermarkets now offering slots

Morrisons has announced a huge expansion to its Click and Collect service with five Edinburgh supermarkets signed-up.

Shops at Portobello, Ferry Road, Granton, Moredun and Hunter's Tryst are all offering the service, along with other nearby stores in Dalkeith, Kirkcaldy, Cowdenbeath and Livingston.

The supermarket giant says 447 of its branches across the UK are providing extra slots in order to help the country through this latest lockdown. Prior to the pandemic Morrisons were offering Click and Collect at just 14 stores.

The service allows people to do their shopping online before heading down to a store and collecting it contact-free at a convenient time.

Morrisons say they'll also continue offering key workers 10 per cent discounts on their shopping, with designated NHS shopping hours set aside Monday to Friday 6am to 7am.

Mike Foster, online operations director, said: "We are doing everything we can to increase the amount of home delivery slots available but we recognise that the slots get snapped up quickly in lockdown.

"Click and Collect is an excellent alternative and is proving really popular with customers. Since the first lockdown we have expanded our Click & Collect service significantly and it is now available from 447 of our stores across the country.

"We have slots available now nationwide so our customers can get the groceries they need in a contact-free and convenient way.”

This comes as several supermarkets in Edinburgh have been raided by panic buyers this week, with aisles left empty in some instances.

Sainsbury's in Longstone saw milk trolliest left almost empty, with toilet roll and bread aisles looking barren. The Sainsbury's store at Murrayfield was also left with bare shelves after Nicola Sturgeon's fresh lockdown announcement.
