Morrisons customers threaten to boycott supermarket over More loyalty scheme changes

Morrisons customers are threatening to ditch the supermarket ahead of changes to its loyalty scheme that are coming next week.

The shake-up of its Morrisons More programme will mean customers can no longer collect points - instead they’ll receive digital coupons via an app.

Shoppers currently get five points for every £1 they spend in stores, which they can then turn into vouchers.

You need to collect 5,000 points worth to get a £5 voucher.

But as part of the changes, this will stop from May 10 - meaning the final day to collect points is May 9.

Morrisons will also stop producing physical More cards from next week, so if you lose or damage yours, it won’t be replaced.

Customers can keep using their existing card from May 10 onwards.

The cut off point for requesting any points you’ve built up before the changes come in is August 9, 2021.

Vouchers can be redeemed through the app or Morrisons website, or by printing them off in store.

Once you’ve requested them, they’ll remain valid for 56 weeks.

As you can only get vouchers in multiples of £5 from Morrisons, any remaining points that can’t be rounded up to this amount will be lost.

Morrisons customers have been taking to Twitter to complain about the changes, with some saying that they’ll shop elsewhere.

One person said: “Not happy you're scrapping your More rewards so i'm scrapping you and taking my business elsewhere!”

Another said: “I don't care for using apps so I probably won't bother anymore.”

A third said: “Don't agree with Morrisons doing away with the Morrisons More loyalty cards.”

A fourth added: “Morrisons just heard about the new more loyalty scheme.. guess I’ll be getting my petrol and shopping from Tesco as of May.”

On its website, Morrisons claims the changes to its More loyalty scheme come following customer feedback.

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We have been in touch with our Morrisons More customers to let them know about some changes we have planned.

"A key feature of the new service is that all savings will be communicated in pounds and will be available to spend immediately so customers will no longer need to save up their points or wait for vouchers.

"We got in touch with our customers a few weeks ago so that they were made aware of the changes and could redeem their existing More Points before they expire.”
