Following Friday’s practice, Boston Celtics forward Marcus Morris discussed the final play of Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, a 97-98 loss against a team that currently holds the best record in the NBA (44-14). A play that Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving declined to comment on out of fear of penalization.
To Morris, there was no doubt that he “was held on the cut.”
“For the ref to be just standing right there,” said Morris, “I just thought [there was] a lot of contact. Especially the way the game was being called, I felt like I should have gotten that call.”
On the play in question, Morris was undeniably held by Bucks swingman Khris Middleton as he tried to free himself up for a backdoor cut off of a back screen by Irving. Following Irving’s errant floater with the clock expiring, a visibly incensed Morris charged towards the officials, being held back by Celtics assistant coach Jerome Allen.
The NBA has yet to release their Last Two Minute Report but it’s widely expected for at least the foul on Morris to be listed among the official’s errors.
Morris finished Thursday’s game with 11 points (4-12 shooting from the field, 3-10 shooting from three-point range), six rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes.
