Morpheus hotel opens this June in City of Dreams, Macau

Morpheus hotel at City of Dreams was designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid.

Macau’s hotel industry is getting an upgrade next month when Morpheus opens on June 15. The hotel, located at City of Dreams, is Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s new flagship luxury hotel.

The hotel boasts around 770 rooms, including three pool villas and six duplex villas.

It was designed by famous architect Zaha Hadid, who was noted for her love of sweeping curves and sensuous aesthetics.

Morpheus also highlights Hadid’s love for strong lines, with an impressive free-form exoskeleton design that takes bragging rights as a world’s first. The number “8”, which is associated with luck and prosperity in Chinese culture, can be seen from the outside, nestled in the heart of the building.

Highlights of the hotel include a 35-metre-high atrium, which boasts strong, architectural lines. Located within the atrium are 12 lifts that are built to travel within the building’s figure “8”, offering guests a panoramic view of Macau as they swoosh up and down the hotel.

Morpheus is also set to be a dining hot spot. It already made waves in the foodie world when it announced that it will house two Alain Ducasse restaurants, both taking up the same floor: Alain Ducasse at Morpheus and Voyages by Alain Ducasse. The latter is an Asian-inspired take that has been heavily influenced by Ducasse’s worldly travels, and is tailor-made for City of Dreams.

Other highly anticipated restaurants and dining spots include the Pierre Hermé Lounge and Yi, which will serve omakase menus made up of regional Chinese cuisines.

Our favourite feature of the hotel, however, might just be the Morpheus Spa, which offers a “Spa Butler” concept and a Snow Garden boasting real snow.
