Morpeth hosts Garden Lovers Fair this Easter with bug hotel-building and free face-painting

Children can learn some green-fingered skills at the first Garden Lovers Fair in Northumberland which will be celebrating Easter with a range of activities.

The event will make its debut at Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth on April 20 with a flourishing programme of talks, demonstrations and traders.

A children's activity area will include garden-theme crafts such as decorating plant pots; sowing a sunflower; painting stones for the garden and helping build a bug hotel. There will be free face painting too.

A live demonstration stage will host the likes of the arcade's gardener Ray Dixon who will be showing how to create a hanging basket of showpiece blooms.

Local traders will be selling a range of plants and flowers; gardeners will be on hand to discuss skills and an exhibition will look back on local Britain in Bloom successes.

Visitors during the day, which will run from 10am until 3.30pm, will also be able to visit a pop-up run by local horticultural students.

At the helm of the demonstration stage during the Easter celebration will be BBC Newcastle’s Garden Mania host Marian Foster.
