Morocco: Swiss Man Sentenced to 10 Years on Terror Charges

The Criminal Chamber in charge of terrorism cases in the city of Sale, near Rabat, has sentenced a 33-year-old Swiss national to 10 years in prison on terrorism charges over links to the suspects in the killing of two Scandinavian women near Marrakech in December.

The man was identified only as Nicolas P. But he was convicted in a case unrelated to the double murder.

He was among more than 20 people arrested after the women’s killing.

His lawyer Kahlil Idriss said Friday the man was arrested in January for having had contact with another Swiss national involved in the murder of the Scandinavian hikers.

Nicolas P. was tried on charges of “forming a gang to plot and commit terrorist acts aiming at seriously undermining state security, intentionally helping the perpetrators of terrorist acts, training people to join terrorist organizations and apologia for terrorism.”
