
The National Ports Agency (ANP) revealed that grain imports amounted to 3.5 million tons in Tunisia at the end of the four first months of 2020, an increase of 38 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
In its latest bulletin on the port’s activity, the agency reported a slight increase in container activity in ports supervised by ANP – an increase of 1.5 percent end of April. As for cargos, their activity saw a 1.6 percent hike.
Exports increased 6.6 percent while imports dropped by 1.1 percent, revealed the same source.
In another context, Morocco’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced that the spring and summer crops would cover consumption needs between June and December of 2020.
In its statement on Thursday, the ministry affirmed that the distribution of spring plantations is taking place normally with 105 percent of the specified program that's been completed so far. Spaces dedicated for potatoes reached 112 percent, tomatoes 127 percent, onions 106 percent, pumpkins 147 percent, and green beans 209 percent.
More than 90 percent was accomplished so far in other plantations.
Since the crisis began, the ministry was keen to take strict measures regarding health and hygiene. These measures were endorsed by active and relevant parties on the agricultural value chain (villages, wholesale markets of vegetables, fish, and export units, etc.)
Under the declared health emergence state in the county to fight COVID-19, the ministry added that it is overseeing regularly and accurately domestic production and storage of crops. No interruptions were monitored, it concluded.
