Morocco’s Prime Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani slammed Spain’s hosting of head of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali under a false Algerian identity as a “scandal.”
Speaking during a virtual meeting with the Justice and Development Party (PJD), he said the “separatist front claims it has a state, ministers and ambassadors, while it actually has no official passport.”
The Foreign Ministry has expressed regret over Spain’s hosting of Ghali, who is accused of committing serious war crimes and flagrant human rights violations.
It said Madrid's stance is “inconsistent with the spirit of partnership and good neighborliness.”
Rabat is seeking an explanation of Spain’s position, the ministry said on Sunday.
The Foreign Ministry had summoned the Spanish ambassador to convey the government’s “regret” over the decision to receive Ghali for medical treatment.
The Spanish foreign ministry said Thursday that Ghali is being treated for COVID-19 and had been transferred to Spain for “strictly humanitarian reasons.”
