The Moroccan Education Ministry is preparing to inoculate 4 million students ahead of the 2021 academic year, upon recommendations to vaccinate young people across the country.
The vaccination campaign will involve children from 12 to 17 years of age.
Sources at the ministry said that an official statement will be issued soon to announce the vaccination of students.
“Announcing the official inoculation of students is expected early next week,” the sources said.
The new initiative comes as Morocco seeks to reinforce its vaccination campaign and secure more vaccines.
Doctor Moulay Said Afifi, a member of the national technical committee for vaccination, said a shipment of 800,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will soon arrive to the country. It will help Morocco expand its inoculation campaign to include people aged 12 and above.
Since launching its vaccination drive in January, the kingdom has been using the Sinopharm and Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. Rabat recently received 300,000 jabs of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Meanwhile, health authorities announced that more than 17 million people have received the first dose of the vaccine, while more than 12 million have received both jabs.
Morocco is averaging around 10,000 COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths per day.
