The Moroccan parliament will inaugurate on Friday its new legislative cycle, pressured by social demands that have started to tense the government of Dr. Saadeddine Othmani – he is supposed to translate these demands into practical steps in the coming budget to be proposed on the parliament.
Previously, the two major allies in the government, the Justice and Development Party and the National Rally of Independents, announced overcoming their disputes or at lease pausing them. Two weeks ago, the political scene was dominated by both parties launching accusations against each other.
Morocco's Minister of Youth and Sports Rachid Talbi Alami accused the Justice and Development Party of possessing a project to sabotage the country so that it manages to rule it. These accusations led to widening the gap among components of the government coalition.
Meanwhile, the government promised to give the priority to the social policies in budget 2019 bill, to be proposed in front of the parliament, through restructuring the social protection programs and accelerating the success of the social dialogue as well as supporting the purchasing power of citizens.
In this context, the government is willing to launch a comprehensive restructuring process of programs and national policies in the field of social support and protection. It added that it will depend on a unified social record that would permit it to specify the social categories eligible for support via following objective and accurate standards and the use of modern technology.
