Morocco and Nigeria renewed their commitment on Sunday to building a gas pipeline and a fertilizer plant, the royal palace in Rabat said.

The renewed commitment came during a phone call between Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

They welcomed the positive dynamic that bilateral relations have witnessed since 2016. Moreover, they recalled King Mohammed VI’s visit to Nigeria in December 2016, as well as Buhari’s visit to Morocco in June 2018.

Buhari thanked King Mohammed VI and Morocco for their efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism. Buhari especially mentioned the training of Nigerian imams at the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams in Rabat.

Separately, Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met in Rabat on Monday with Francois Beya Kasonga, special security adviser to Democratic Republic of the Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi.

The officials discussed strengthening bilateral relations and security challenges in Africa, noting the mounting threat of terrorism and the need for a coordinated continental response.

The meeting was a follow-up to a message King Mohammed VI recently sent to Tshisekedi.
