Morocco reported a loss of 581,000 jobs between the third quarter of 2019 and the same period this year.

The national economy lost 237,000 jobs in urban areas and 344,000 in rural areas during that period, the High Commission for Planning said Tuesday.

With an increase of 368,000, including 276,000 in urban areas and 92,000 in rural areas, the overall volume of unemployment reached 1,482,000 people nationally.

So the unemployment rate rose from 9.4 percent to 12.7 percent at the national level, from 12.7 percent to 16.5 percent in urban areas and from 4.5 percent to 6.8 percent in rural areas.
