Morocco: Army Deploys Extensive Efforts to Help Health System Tackle COVID-19

Morocco's chief doctor at Rabat's military hospital said the army has mobilized all of its resources to support the health system in combating the novel coronavirus amid possible mass influx of patients.

Colonel Zbir El Mehdi told reporters during a guided tour earlier this week that the army boosted facilities's capacity and improved available equipment needed for this mission.

Morocco had recorded 2,528 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 133 deaths as of Friday, while over 270 have officially recovered.

"The crisis has prompted us to reinforce medical teams so that there is proper care" he said, noting that medical teams have been sent to 45 areas across the country.

Military hospitals have been reordered to maximize bed capacity and two field hospitals had been deployed to the coastal Casablanca region, according to Mehdi.

"We still have the situation under control," he stressed.

According to AFP, Rabat's military hospital, considered the country's most modern, has treated several African heads of state in the past.

The North African kingdom has closed its borders and imposed a lockdown, enforced by security forces, to stem the spread of the disease.
