Morningside Road crash: Local MP pays tribute after three-year-old is killed in car crash

The local community are in a state of "shock" following the tragic death of a toddler in crash on Morningside Road yesterday (30 June).

Locals have been laying flowers, teddy bears and other tributes at the scene of the crash throughout the day.

Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray said the tributes and heartbreaking messages showed the "deep sadness" felt in the community.

Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday evening that a young boy, aged three, had died following injuries sustained in the crash.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Labour MP Ian Murray said: “The local community are in a state of shock and disbelief that such a young life could be lost in this way.

“The laying of tributes by people at the site with their beautiful but heart-breaking messages shows the deep sadness of the community and how our thoughts are with the family.”

A 37-year-old woman, believed to be the young boy's mother, was also injured.

A red Kia car had mounted the pavement and ploughed into the side of a shop shortly after 2:30pm.

The front of the charity shop is now boarded up after the vehicle was removed from the shop frontage last night.

Locals have offered to help in the repairs to the St Columba's charity shop.
