If you blinked, you might’ve missed it: the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives have gone from feuding with Demi Engemann to following her on Instagram again, and fans are absolutely baffled.
After a season jam-packed with accusations, tears, and a TONNE of group chat chaos, everyone’s left wondering if the drama was ever real, or if we’ve all just been majorly played.

So, what actually happened?
Let’s keep it simple. Demi Engemann copped it from all sides in season two, with castmates Mikayla Matthews and Jessi Ngatikaura accusing her of plotting a totally fake affair storyline with Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex, Dakota Mortensen.
Mikayla spelled it out on The Viall Files podcast, saying Demi wanted to “make up this whole thing that I have an affair with Dakota” — which, even for reality TV, is a bit on the nose.
Jessi backed it up, claiming Demi had a “whole plan” involving secret car meetings and a big reveal. According to Jessi, “It says a lot that there are seven women who feel the exact same way about her,” as reported by Us Weekly.
After all this, Demi was basically given the cold shoulder. She was unfollowed, blocked, and iced out by most of the cast, except for Whitney Leavitt, who told Us Weekly she didn’t agree with everything Demi did, but “everyone is always going through something”.
Even Layla Taylor, who’s usually Switzerland in these situations, said, “There’s definitely a lot of, he said, she said,” and that the group needed to stop spreading the narrative until more comes out.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives great unfollowing
With all that context, you’d think Demi would be out of the group chat for good. But no — fans noticed that, basically overnight, the same castmates who’d been dragging Demi were suddenly following her again on Instagram. As Stephanie Tleiji aka @StephWithDaDeets pointed out on TikTok, “It’s not like this gradually happened… No, it’s literally all within one day.”
The whiplash was real, and fans immediately started calling out the cast for what looked suspiciously like manufactured drama.
“I love this show and the cast but all the stuff that’s happening after the season is making the drama feel fabricated,” said a user on TikTok.
“It’s giving manufactured storyline,” said another.

To make things even more confusing, Demi was apparently spotted at a baby shower for Mikayla and Macy, which, as Steph suggested, could be more about “filming obligation” than actual friendship.
She reckoned, “I don’t think it’s fake, but I do think there’s certain things that they’re like, ‘You need to show up because you are on the show.’” So, is it all for the cameras? Or are these women just really, really forgiving?
Is The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives drama fake or just that messy?
Honestly, it’s hard to tell. Jessi commented on a post about the whole situation, insisting, “none of it’s fake, and everyone will know the full story soon”.
But after all the “I’ll never be friends with her again” talk, the sudden re-following and group appearances have fans rolling their eyes.
Even Layla, who previously called Demi “awful” in a comment, is now back in her social media circle. If this is what forgiveness looks like, someone should bottle it and sell it at Chemist Warehouse.
Meanwhile, Whitney is still trying to keep things diplomatic, telling Us Weekly that she believes the intent isn’t to be malicious, but that “hurt people, hurt people”.
It’s a nice sentiment, but it doesn’t explain why everyone’s Insta behaviour did a full 180 overnight.
At this point, even the most dedicated fans are confused. The cast insist the drama is real, but the timing and social media gymnastics have everyone side-eyeing their screens. The only thing we know for sure is that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has mastered the art of keeping us guessing and I’ll admit I am SAT for season three.
If you want to try and untangle the mess yourself, the first two seasons are streaming now on Disney +.
