Country singer Morgan Wallen has been removed from more than 400 US radio playlists after he was captured using a racial slur in a leaked video.

Cumulus Media, the second biggest radio chain in the States, made the move this week after TMZ released the video of Wallen using the n-word.

In the footage, which was reportedly recorded by a neighbour, the 27-year-old can be seen walking home in Nashville with friends and calling one of them the n-word.

“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen told the publication in a statement. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Wallen has spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard charts for his album, Dangerous, which also broke the first-week streaming record for a country album.

This is not the first time Wallen has been embroiled in a scandal. Last May, he was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct at Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse in Nashville.

In October, his Saturday Night Live appearance was cancelled after videos of him partying and breaching coronavirus protocols went viral on social media.
