Morgan Wallen defends decision to cancel show because of 'bad weather'

Morgan Wallen - 2023 - Derek Storm Everett Collection - CMA Awards

Morgan Wallen has defended his decision to cancel his concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, just hours before he was due to go on.

The country star axed the Acrisure Stadium gig on Saturday night (06.06.26) because of bad weather.

However, fans were quick to criticise the Cowgirls singer, with many accusing him of making the decision too early.

Morgan responded in a video on his social media pages, as he said: “This morning, my team walked on the bus and told me they had been consulting with local officials and that I should cancel my show in Pittsburgh tonight.

“And I said, 'Why?' They said that there was going to be strong winds in the area, and I said, 'OK.'

“So, that is what I did in that moment, and I trusted my team."

He went on to acknowledge the fact that Pittsburgh was far from the worst-hit areas of Pennsylania, he added: “The truth of the matter is, I have a large stage that, in those conditions, could become fatal to a lot of folks around it.

“So, I did the best I could with the information I had in that moment."

It’s not the first time Morgan has caused controversy on his Still The Problem tour.

During a show in Denver last month, a piano malfunctioned and meant he had to finish one of his songs a cappella.

Responding to the mishap, he flipped the piano - which then crashed on the stage and smashed.

Despite the fact he was criticised for the move on social media, Morgan joked about it in a social media post later that evening.

Some people connected Saturday night’s cancellation to the piano-flipping incident, suggesting the two things mark a pattern of behaviour for the singer.

However, Morgan continued his defence video as he said: "I’ve been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true, and I just wanted to clear the air.

“I think my true fans know that that's not how I operate in general, but I had to say it."

Announcing the decision to cancel the concert in the first place, Morgan wrote on his Instagram Stories: “After talking with local officials and my team, there is no choice but to cancel tonight's show due to severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night.

“Safety for my fans and crew is the highest priority."
