Morgan Sanson declares Aston Villa have got themselves "a warrior" after signing

Morgan Sanson claims Aston Villa have signed a “warrior” after he joined from Marseille.

Villa have paid £14million for the French midfielder taking their spending on new players this season to nearly £100million.

The 26-year-old ace has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Villa Park under boss Dean Smith.

Sanson played for Le Mans and Montpellier before joining Marseille in January 2017.

He impressed helping Marseille to second in Ligue 1 last season and to the Europa League final in 2018.

Sanson said: “Aston Villa play well and I like the players.

“I am a warrior and I like it when all the players run for the team and for the club.

“I spoke with the coach and I had a top feeling.

“I think we have a very good team.

“When Aston Villa called me I didn't think about it for a long time.

“It is a big club in England and was the best opportunity for me and my career.

“It was a dream to join the Premier League since I was a little boy.”

Villa boss Smith hopes Sanson can train with them for the first time on Thursday after Wednesday night's game at Burnley.

Smith said: “Morgan has performed consistently at the highest level in French football for a number of seasons as well as in this season’s Champions League, and is a player with the quality and experience to play in any midfield position.

"He will add real competition for starting places and gives us more squad depth which is vital to competing successfully in the Premier League.”
