Chelsea are set to sign Morgan Rogers in a huge £117million move from Aston Villa.
The Blues are looking to make the England international their second summer signing after Marco Palestra arrived from Atalanta.
Rogers, 23, is currently at the World Cup with the Three Lions, and started on the right flank in the 2-1 semi-final defeat by Argentina in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this week.
Standard Sport understands tha tthe attacking midfielder has selected Chelsea over Arsenal, who had made him their top transfer target this summer.
Now, as he prepares for a medical on Monday ahead of his switch to Stamford Bridge, questions will be asked about what shirt number he could wear in west London.
Of the senior numbers, all of those running from No1-No11 are taken.
Rogers sports No27 for Villa, but that is occupied by Malo Gusto at Chelsea.
The No16 and No17 are both available, with Lesley Ugochukwu vacating the former, and Andrey Santos’ £48m move to Manchester United freeing up the latter.
No18 is free, with Christopher Nkunku the last to wear it, and Olivier Giroud and Romelu Lukaku are two of many that preceded him.
No22 and No26 are also without occupants, and Rogers could follow in the footsteps of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Hakim Ziyech and Willian if he were to take the former.
For the No26, he would carry John Terry’s historic number across his back, although that has been saved for central defenders, with Levi Colwll and Kalidou Koulibaly taking over the number from the club legend.
