Morgan Moses notes Dwayne Haskins’ improvement after getting practice reps

Dwayne Haskins got his first start over the weekend and while it doesn’t show on the stat sheet, teammates have noticed a marked improvement.

In fact, some members of the Washington Redskins even say the simple fact the rookie passer got first-team reps made a big difference.

Here’s tackle Morgan Moses, courtesy of The Athletic’s David Aldridge:

“Like I told everybody when you’re able to get those reps throughout the week in practice, it makes a hell of a lot of difference. If you’re a backup quarterback, you’re only preparing for one guy. As a rookie, it’s hard, because you’re just kind of watching everything on film. For a rookie, the most important thing is being able to get out there to see it. Today, you can actually see a growth pattern in him actually being able to take all the reps throughout the week. I think it showed. I was happy about that. We were able to get the calls in.”

This had been a point of controversy for fans since the start of the season. Case Keenum soaked up all the first-team reps in practice, and somewhat understandably so given his newness to Jay Gruden’s system and the desire to win games.

But as the losses started piling up, more and more fans wanted to see Haskins work his way into more meaningful reps to spur his development.

Due to injury, this situation has now unfolded anyway. The question now is whether the coaching staff will keep looking toward the future by continuing to give Haskins these important reps.
