Morgan Gibbs-White: Tottenham move in doubt 'as Nottingham Forest consider legal action'

Tottenham’s move for Morgan Gibbs-White has been thrown into significant doubt amid reports Nottingham Forest are considering legal action over a perceived illegal approach.

Spurs on Thursday made progress on a deal for the Forest midfielder, who is understood to have a £60million release clause in his contract.

Standard Sport understands that Gibbs-White was due to undergo a medical with Spurs on Friday.

However, Sky Sports report that the deal has been delayed - and could be called off - as Forest have lodged a complaint to the Premier League.

It is claimed that Forest believe Spurs made an illegal approach to the England international and were never granted permission to speak to the player.

BBC Sport report that Forest believe there has been a breach of confidentiality surrounding Gibbs-White’s release clause, with The Athletic expanding on club concerns over how Spurs became aware of confidential details within his contract.

Spurs are thought to have triggered the clause, but the Daily Mail report that Forest are claiming the player was contacted without permission - known as ‘tapping up’ - which is against the rules.

The same report adds that contact between the two clubs has now ended, with Spurs also told to no contact the player, and a complaint has been lodged with the Premier League.

Both Spurs and the Premier League declined to comment when contacted by Standard Sport.

Nottingham Forest have been contacted for comment.
