Morgan Gibbs-White reacts to missing out on England’s World Cup squad

Morgan Gibbs-White missed out on selection for the World Cup - (PA)

Morgan Gibbs-White believes England have the quality to win the World Cup, despite his own frustration at missing the cut.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder, who has six caps for his country, was among those left out by manager Thomas Tuchel last week.

While the likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer were overlooked on the back of underwhelming domestic seasons, Gibbs-White scored 15 times in the Premier League and signed off with a goal in Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on the final day.

The 26-year-old was satisfied that he gave himself the best chance and offered his support to those who have secured a spot on the plane.

“I was disappointed, really disappointed, but I was happy with the way I performed towards the end of the season,” he told Sky Sports News.

“I knew in myself I couldn’t do any more. Any kid’s dream growing up is to play at a World Cup or make a World Cup squad list.

“I’m wishing all the boys all the luck, all the best wishes, because this group, they are genuinely an incredible group of players. They’ve got everything they need to win it.”

England open their World Cup campaign against Croatia on 17 June.
