Morgan Fox to Nottingham Forest - What we know so far about transfer rumour

Nottingham Forest have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday defender Morgan Fox, with a number of other clubs also reportedly interested.

Here's what we know so far about this particular Reds transfer rumour.

WHO IS LEADING THE CHASE?

Before the January transfer window, Forest were one of several Championship clubs said to be keen on Fox.

Reports claimed they would face competition for the Owls left-back from arch-rivals Derby County, West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers.

Sabri Lamouchi's men ended up bringing in Gaetan Bong in January, having lost Jack Robinson and Chema, but Fox's is a name which refuses to go away.

And now Football Insider claim Middlesbrough are also eyeing a move for the 26-year-old, who is out of contract this summer.

LOWDOWN

Fox was born in Chelmsford on September 21, 1993, stands at 6ft1in tall and can play either at left-back of centre-half.

The defender started his career with Charlton Athletic, progressing through the club’s youth ranks before being loaned out to Notts County in November 2013.

His first appearance in senior football came in a 1-0 defeat to Brentford in League One, where he replaced an injured Manny Smith midway through the second half.

Fox played alongside current Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish during the game at Meadow Lane, with the playmaker also on loan with the Magpies.

After making seven appearances for Notts County in a two-month loan spell, Fox returned to Charlton and was awarded first-team opportunities at the Addicks.

WHAT HE’S SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE

Fox’s current deal at Wednesday expires at the end of the season.

Back in October, the full-back admitted that his future at the club is not in his control, but does he want to stay with the Owls?

“Obviously, I have only got until the end of the season late and it is out of my hands really,” Fox told the Sheffield Star at the time.

He added: “I am happy here and as long as I am in the team playing football, then I am going to be. But I always give my most, that's all I can do.”

Despite Fox’s contract at Hillsborough being due to expire at the end of the season, the coronavirus pandemic could see him stay at Wednesday past the traditional June 30 end date for contracts.

Forest’s season is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with football not due to resume until April 30, although it remains unlikely that the campaign will return at the end of the month.
