Moredun violence - Claims police vehicle 'hit teen' as gangs smash cars

There are claims a police vehicle may have hit a teenager in Moredun as violence involving dozens of youths broke out last night.

Dozens of youths reportedly smashed car windows in the south of Edinburgh area on Monday night, armed with sticks and knives.

Around 25 youths were seen in the area with many wearing balaclavas, chasing children.

Another incident was reported at the petrol station at Alnwickhill.

One post on Facebook said: "If anyone round gilmerton/gracemount/moredun/ ferniside area has kids I’d advise them to bring them back in the house as there is people running around in balaclavas smashing windows and cars and chasing kids."

A large police presence was seen in the area and one eyewitness claimed a police vehicle struck a teenager who was involved in the trouble.

Another post said: "Please watch your kids in the gracemount area was coming back from the shops and there was a bunch of youths looked like teenagers around 15 of them with hoods up and balaclavas cutting though the beach grove into gracemount armed with sticks scary stuff for kids nowadays."
