Armed police are currently in attendance at Craigour Green in Moredun following reports of a firearm inside a property there.
Officers were called to the area in the south of the city, close to high-rise flats, at 12.25pm today (Tuesday). Inquiries are ongoing although police say there is no wider threat to the public.
Eyewitnesses report seeing a number of officers, carrying weapons, on the road outside the flats.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to a property in the Craigour Green area at around 12.25pm on Tuesday, 22 October following a report that a potential firearm was within a property.
"Inquiries are ongoing. Officers remain at the scene and there is no wider threat to the public."
