Police arrested two men in Bangkok on Monday morning and seized luxury vehicles worth about 20 million baht allegedly linked to Lao drug kingpin Xaysana Keopimpha.
Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan, deputy national police chief, said Pojanart Permpoon was arrested in Huai Khwang. He was suspected of being a close aide of Wanchalerm Kamollert, aka Note Dindaeng, who was connected to the drug network run by Xaysana and was arrested early last year.
At Ponjanart's condominium building, police seized five luxury cars, a motorbike and a gun, with a combined value of about 20 million baht.
Simultaneously police searched a house worth 10 million baht owned by Mr Wanchalerm in On Nut. There was nobody in the house when they arrived. Police found a portable frequency jammer believed to be used to facilitate drug orders, Pol Gen Chalermkiat said
Pol Lt Gen Sommai Kongwisaisook, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said Mr Pojanart confessed to keeping assets for Mr Wanchalerm and that 70-80 million baht had been circulated through Mr Wanchalerm's bank accounts last year.
Mr Wanchalerm also invested in the Golden Triangle, he said.
On Monday police also raided a flat in Din Daeng and arrested Mr Wanchalerm's older brother, singer Pahoon Kamollert.
Mr Pahoon told reporters that he had raised two children for Mr his brother, who had transferred money to fund their upbringing. He was aware of his brother's drugs business and had warned him to quit. He denied any involvement in the illegal business.
