Police arrested two men in Bangkok on Monday morning and seized luxury vehicles worth about 20 million baht allegedly linked to Lao drug kingpin Xaysana Keopimpha.
Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan, deputy national police chief, said Pojanart Permpoon was arrested at Belle condominium on Rama IX Road, Huai Khwang district.
He was suspected of being a close aide of Wanchalerm Kamollert, aka Note Dindaeng, who was connected to the drug network run by Xaysana, who was arrested early last year.
At the condominium building, police seized five luxury cars, a big motorbike and a gun, worth in total about 20 million baht.
Simultaneously police searched a house worth 10 million baht owned by Mr Wanchalerm in Onnut area. There was nobody in the house when they arrived. Police found a portable frequency jammer believed to be used to facilitate drug orders, Pol Gen Chalermkiat said
Pol Lt Gen Sommai Kongwisaisook, commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, said Mr Pojanart confessed to keeping assets for Mr Wanchalerm, and 70-80 million baht had been circulated through the bank accounts of Mr Wanchalerm last year.
Mr Wanchalerm also invested in the Golden Triangle, he said.
On Monday police also raided a flat in Din Daeng district and arrested singer Pahoon Kamollert, an elder brother of Mr Wanchalerm.
Mr Pahoon told reporters that he had raised two children for Mr Wanchalerm, who had transferred money to fund their upbringing. He was aware of his brother's drugs business and had warned him to quit it. He denied any involvement in the illegal business.
